About This Destination

Formerly a sanctuary and upgraded to a National Park in 2015, Chundikulam is one of Sri Lanka's most remote and rewarding wildlife destinations. Located in the northern province near Elephant Pass, it offers a dramatic landscape of coastal dunes, mangroves, and dry forests.

The park is a world-class avifauna destination, hosting over 140 bird species. It serves as a vital wintering ground for migratory birds like the Greater Flamingo, Northern Pintail, and Eurasian Spoonbill. Beyond the lagoon, the scrublands are home to Asian Elephants, Sloth Bears, and leopards.

  • Birdwatcher's paradise with migratory flamingo flocks
  • Unique ecosystem blending coastal lagoons and dry forests
  • Home to elephants, sloth bears, and mugger crocodiles

Visiting Chundikulam is a journey into the heart of Sri Lanka's northern frontier, offering a raw and authentic wildlife experience away from the crowds.
