Clothing for a safari drive
Wear neutral, muted colours such as khaki, olive or beige rather than bright or white clothing, which can stand out to wildlife. Layers help, since early morning starts are often cool before temperatures rise quickly.
Sun and insect protection
Bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent, since jeeps are open-sided with no shade for much of the drive.
Camera and optics
Binoculars significantly improve your experience, especially for birdlife and distant sightings, and a zoom lens is valuable if wildlife photography matters to you, since you cannot approach animals closely for safety and conservation reasons.
Practical extras
Pack water, a light snack, a dust-proof bag or cover for camera gear, motion sickness tablets if you are prone to travel sickness on bumpy roads, and a light rain jacket, since sudden showers are possible even in the dry season.
What to leave behind
Avoid loose jewellery, strong perfume, and anything you would not want covered in dust, since park tracks are unpaved and can be dusty in the dry season.
